Obituary of Lavaughna Allen

Lavaughna Roberts Allen went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 11, 2009. She was born August 31, 1917 in Frederick, OK to Carl and Ruth Roberts. She later moved to Wichita Fails, TX with her parents and attended elementary through high school. Lavaughna was named most outstanding student at Reagan Junior High and later graduated from Wichita Falls High School with honors. After completion of high school, she attended Hardin Simmons University. She married Joe S. Allen on August 29, 1937 in Wichita Falls, TX. She served as a pastor's wife for over fifty years in Moran, Merkel, Kermit, and Childress, Texas, feeling it was her calling as well as his. She was a Bible scholar teaching many young women through Sunday school and various Bible studies continuing until her death. She received great joy from sharing the Word with others. Her handy work was evident through her creation of garments for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was not only active in ministry, but also in civic affairs. While living in Childress, Texas, she was chosen as Woman of the Year in 1977 by the Childress Chamber of Commerce. She was an active member of Acton Baptist Church in Granbury, Texas for almost twenty years before moving to Hale Center, Texas in 2003 to be near family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ruth Roberts, her husband, Joe S. Allen, and grandson Teddy Layton Moore. Those left to carry on her memory are daughters and sons in law, Jo Lynn and Don Maddin of Hale Center, Texas, Genie and Billy Jack Henderson of San Angelo, Texas. Granddaughters Kelly and husband Randy Clay of Seminole, Karrie and husband Greg Pharris of Forney, Andi and husband Benny Hauk of Nashville, Tennessee and grandson, Dr. David Moore and wife Jennifer of Stephenville, Texas. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren who were verv much a part of her life. Her services were held 10:00 am, Monday, September 14, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Rev. Rodney Watson of Abilene and Rev. Carrol Green officiating. Graveside services were held at 4:00 pm at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls, Texas under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX Abell Funeral Home
