Our mother who is a memorable model as stated in 1 Thes. 1:6; you welcomed the message with joy given by the Holy Spirit. The Lord spoke to our Mother on October 15, 2011, at the age of 81 to call her to her heavenly home.
Carolyn Bertha Poenack Ellis was born on August 23, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to Walter Henry & Hilda (Ellrich) Poenack. She was raised in St. Louis, MO, Dallas, TX, graduated from Plainview High School and attended two years of college. She worked as secretary for Flash-O-Gas where she met and married Dwayne "Buddy" Ellis. She later worked for Harvest Queen Mill and Elevator for 36 years, where she served as Vice President. She then went to work for Olton Coop Gin and transferred to Cotton Center Coop Gin and worked there for the next 9 years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center. After her retirement from Cotton Center Coop Gin she moved to Hale Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hale Center and volunteered her time at the Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum. She was a long time member of the Soroptimist Club in Plainview, the Plainview Rodeo Association and Booster Club for Future Farmers of America.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a son, Barry Dwayne Ellis.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Sherry Ellis Mattheus, Priscilla Ellis Hooper and husband David; Grandchildren, Misti Tomison and husband Justin, Trace Mattheus, Keenan, William and Hannah Hooper, also two great granddaughters, Teegan and Makayla Tomison and three nephews, Fred, Jack and George Schneider.
Services were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, in the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center, TX, with Rev. J. D. Templeton officiating. Interment followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center or to Area Community Hospice in Plainview.
