Services for Henry Ahrens, 91, of Olton, TX, were held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 14, 2011, in the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center, TX with Rev. Michael Holmes, pastor of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Littlefield, TX officiating. Burial followed in the Center Plains Cemetery in Cotton Center, TX under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center. Mr. Ahrens died at his residence on Monday, July 11, 2011. He was born April 17, 1920 in Wilson, TX and married Louise Schoonvelt on April 24, 1948 in Thrall, TX. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Italy as a B-17 mechanic. He farmed in the Cotton Center and Olton area since 1953 and moved to their farm outside of Olton in 1969. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Littlefield and had served on the Cotton Center School Board and the Mayfield Gin Board. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise; 2 sons, Wes Ahrens and his wife Janice of Danville, CA, Robert Ahrens and his wife Cindy of Hale Center; 1 daughter, Kathy Davis and her husband Alan of Hale Center; 8 grandchildren, Amy & Chris Rowzee, Brad Ahrens, Andrea & Brian Bennett, Jennifer & Rob Sukhija, Brandon and Debbie Ahrens, Lindsay & Matt Grannan, Matt & Jaimie Davis and Clint Davis, 5 great grandchildren, Gavin Rowzee, Katy Bennett, Jasmine & Nate Sukhija and Avery Ahrens; 2 sisters, Laverne Gardner of Austin, TX and Gladys McLean of Corpus Christi, TX. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society. Abell Funeral Home
