Services for Jimmy Kelly, Sr., 92, of Lubbock, TX will be held at 10:00am, Friday, February 7, 2025 at Abell Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Harbison officiating. Burial will follow in the Spur Cemetery in Spur, TX. The family will gather to receive friends from 5:30pm until 6:30pm Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Abell Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Mr. Kelly died Monday, February 3, 2025 in Lubbock.
He was born on April 23, 1932 in Anson, TX to Wade and Bertha Laverne (Scarborough) Kelly. The oldest of 5 children, Jimmy was raised in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1949. He married Edna Carter on July 21, 1950 in Lubbock. The family lived in the Happy Union community while Jimmy farmed around Petersburg, raising their 3 children. Later in life, he began driving trucks, driving over a million miles hitting every state in the continental United States. They moved to Spur,TX in their later years where Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church, Spur Senior Citizens and the Independent Order of the Oddfellow Lodge. He was a good and loyal man to his wife and family and a hard worker that passed on that work ethic on to his children.
Mr. Kelly is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Kelly in 2013, and all of his siblings Jack Kelly, Thomas Kelly, Eugene Kelly and Martha Bomar, and a great granddaughter.
He is survived by 3 children Jimmy Kelly, Jr., and wife, Julie, of Plainview, TX, Pat McKeown and husband, Gene, of Shallowater, TX, and Marilyn Jordan of Lubbock, TX, 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Spur Senior Citizens, 210 Burlington Ave., Spur, TX 79370.
