Services for Debra Ann Thomas, 69, of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 20, 2024, in Abernathy United Church. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Ms. Thomas died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Lubbock.
Debra was born February 20, 1955 in Lubbock to Harold and Billie Ann (Watts) Thomas. She was raised in Abernathy, graduating from Abernathy High School in 1973 and graduated Texas Tech University in 1977. Debra ran the traffic Department of Paul Reinhart in Richardson, TX, for many years, which was the largest cotton firm in the State, and was ranked among the top five merchandising firms in America. She mentored and impacted the professional lives of many cotton logistics individuals and service providers that are still employed by cotton merchandising firms, ocean carriers and truck companies today. She was the Dalcot golf tournament queen for over 10 years, the largest cotton golf tournament in Dallas, TX, and brought people in from all over the United States to participate. Debra loved to travel and went all over the world in her cotton business. She loved her dog Sunshine and nobody left her home without getting to know Sunshine. Debra loved Santa Fe, NM, Turquoise, boots, clothes, the rodeo, and she loved to shop, she loved to shop a lot!! Debra and her brother David were lifelong best friends and fought together until the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Ann Thomas, September 1, 2009, Harold Thomas, October 19, 2009 and brother David Thomas, August 17, 2020.
Debra is survived by cousins, Jeff Watts and wife Marti, Jill Watts, and Gloria Young, an uncle, Bob Thomas, and two cousins that Debra "adopted" as her grandchildren and was their mentor, Mackamy Pooley and Peighton Watts. Debra is also survived by her beloved Morkie, Sunshine Thomas, who will be cared for by Jill.
