Obituary of Joe Tom Brown, Jr.

Memorial services for Joe Tom Brown, Jr., 81, of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Calvary Baptist Church, Lubbock, with Rev. Richard Rush, pastor, officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters Friday, February 9, 2024. Joe Tom Brown, Jr., was born December 16, 1942 at the family home in Abernathy to Joe Tom, Sr and Evelyn Elizabeth (Ellison) Brown. He was raised in Abernathy, where he graduated from Abernathy High School in 1961 and then attended Texas Tech. He married Nelda Sanders, August 17, 1962 in Abernathy and moved to Lubbock later that year where they would raise their 2 daughters, Tandy and Cindy. Joe was employed by TXDOT for 32 years, retiring in 2002, he then became a great stay-at-home Grandpa. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and previously had taught Sunday School. He liked hunting with his grandsons, trout fishing, and golf. He loved “tinkering” and could fix most anything. Joe always had a story or joke to share with whoever would listen. He is preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Brown and a sister, Elizabeth Brown. He is survived by his wife Nelda Brown of Lubbock, 2 daughters, Tandy Webb and husband Robert of Andrews, TX and Cindy Parker and husband Jeff of Cross Plains, TX, 4 grandchildren, Aaron Webb of Lubbock, Tyler Stone Webb of Andrews, Caity Webb Coleman and husband Colbie of Dallas, TX and Wyatt Parker of Cross Plains, a brother, Robert Brown and wife Barbara of Abilene and 2 nephews Chris and Trey Brown both of Abilene.
