A Celebration of Life service for Penny Hamilton Thomas, 60, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in the Bethel Baptist Church, Abernathy, with Rev. W. R. Bolton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Cemetery, Lubbock, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Viewing will be held Monday, October 31, 2022, from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm at Abell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas transitioned into eternity surrounded by her loving family, Friday, October 28, 2022, in Lubbock, TX.
Penny was born July 29, 1962 in Lubbock, to the late Thirkeld Hamilton and the late Geraldine (Jackson) Hamilton. She graduated Abernathy High School in 1981 and was a longtime devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board and was involved in many other areas of the church through the years. Penny married James Edward Thomas and he preceded her in death October 12, 2005. Penny was employed at Covenant Medical Center for over 20 years. During this time, she was consistently recognized by staff and patients for her dedication and empathy to all she served. She assisted others with grace, love and a genuine caring heart. As a colon cancer survivor, Penny volunteered annually with Convenant’s colon cancer awareness program. Penny loved her family with a fierceness and care like no other. Family and togetherness was most important to her. In later years, this love of family was instilled in her grandchildren and they became her life's devotion.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, L. M. Connaley in 1969.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 3 children, Lola Hamilton of Abernathy, Mirl Hamilton and wife Danielle of Elgin, TX and Nicole Caldwell and husband Reggie of Lubbock, 4 brothers, Charles Connaley of Abernathy, Graylon Hamilton and wife Shelley of Lubbock, Bobby Hamilton of Abernathy and Timmy Hamilton of Corsicana, TX and 7 precious grandchildren, Caleb, Drew, Palmer, Brooklyn, Trey, Harlan and Berkeley.
