Graveside services for Kenneth Wayne "Busher" Smith, 83, of Abernathy, will be held at 11:30 am Friday, February 18, 2022, at Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, with Rev. Janet Edwards officiating. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 17, 2022. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mr. Smith died at his home in Abernathy, Saturday, February 12, 2022. Ken was born August 28, 1938 in Lubbock to E. J. "Smitty" and Jessie Pauline (Barker) Smith. Ken was a Lubbock native and graduated Lubbock High School in 1957 and was an avid baseball player while at Lubbock High. He attended Texas Tech for a year and a half then served in the US Marine Corps in 1958. Ken served as forman with several construction companies. He loved carpentry and all general forms of construction. He also enjoyed all sports especially golf, bowling and weight training. He took great pride in the work he did. Ken married Beth (Enger) Gist, July 1, 1989 in Las Vegas, NV, and shared 32 years together. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, E. J. and Pauline Smith and a step-son, Greg Gist. He is survived by his wife Beth Smith of Abernathy, 3 children, Mark Smith and wife Renae and Staci Parks and husband Wade all of Lubbock and Cherise Leon and husband Carroll of Abernathy, grandchildren, Rodney Leon and wife Lacey and Kristen Mullins and husband Brett all of Abernathy, Lauren Merritt and husband Dustin of Amarillo, TX, Jordan Smith and Kirsten Fuentes and husband A.J. all of Lubbock and Jessica Hall and husband Chris of Austin, TX, 6 great grandchildren, Remi, Addison, Claire, Mazie, Hannah and Birdie, and a brother, Harold Smith and wife Jeannine of Garland, TX. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
