The family of Alma Jean (Jackson) Davidson, 94, of Lubbock, TX, will gather to receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 pm Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Abell Funeral Home, 411 16th Street, Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Davidson died Wednesday, June 8, 2016, in Lubbock, TX. Jean was born December 19, 1921 to Grady Lee and Milly Lois (Davidson) Jackson in Tipton, OK. After living near Tatum, NM, the family moved to Abernathy, TX in 1926. Jean graduated from Abernathy High School and attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a degree in Business. She taught business courses at Abernathy High School for a year, then married Eugene Neil Davidson August 19, 1943, in Erie, PA, and worked in business offices in Erie, PA and New York City. After moving to Chicago, IL, she focused on raising her children. The family moved to St. Louis, MO, then returned to Jean's childhood farm home at Abernathy, TX in 1954. Besides managing the books for the farm, she sewed clothes for herself and daughters, gardened, was an active member of the Church of Christ, and was known for years for hosting family and friends in her home. In 1971 she and her husband, Eugene, retired from farming, moving to Tucson, AZ, where he was an Industrial Engineer in civil service with the Air Force. Upon his retirement they moved to Abilene, TX in 1990, where she spent much time hosting her family and others. She moved to Lubbock, TX in 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, George Oliver Jackson, son, Mark Alan Davidson, daughter, Dee Ann Andrews, and grandson John Patrick Holland. She is survived by her son, Neil Davidson and wife, Roseanna, of Flanagan, IL, daughter, Laura Holland and husband, Gary, of Abilene, TX, son-in-law, Tom Andrews, of Picayune, MS, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nephew, Lee Jackson and wife Fran, of Abernathy, TX, and niece, Tere Violettte, of Hale Center, TX. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Assn, 8008 Slide Rd, Lubbock, TX 79424, Hospice of Lubbock, P O Box 16800, Lubbock, TX 79408, or a charity of their choice.
