Services for Billy F. Skipper, 88, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, 2016, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home to receive friends, Tuesday, April 12th, 2016, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. Mr. Skipper died Saturday, April 9th, 2016, in Lubbock, TX. He was born August 18, 1927, 5 miles West of Abernathy to D. D. and Lynie Olivia (Sosebee) Skipper. He graduated Abernathy High School in 1943 as Salutatorian and served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1946 until 1947. He married Edna Camp, September 1, 1946 in Des Moines, NM and she preceded him in death January 14, 2013. He was employed at First State Bank in Abernathy, retiring as Senior Vice-President in 1992 and continued to serve on the Board of Directors for 10 more years. He was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for 46 years and served on the Music Ministry for 60 years and had served on the Abernathy City Council. He is survived by his 4 children; Mike Skipper and wife Jan of Wilmington, DE, Steve Skipper and wife Angelia of Lubbock, TX, Yvette Knight and husband Travis of Anton, TX, and Mark Skipper and wife Karen of Georgetown, TX, 9 grandchildren, Brett and Lea Ann Skipper, Robin and Marc Mullin, Michelle and Will McCreery, Meg and Andrew Barnes, Julie and Nathan Hooper, Jill and Cory Forbes, Jenci and Ezra Chambers, Wayne and Ashley Knight and Stacy and Beau Riker and 22 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers; Johnny Skipper and wife Claudine of Abernathy, TX, Gary Skipper and wife Edwinna, and Truett Skipper and wife Sheila all of San Antonio, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church, 411 7th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311.
