Obituary of Frances Barrick

Services for Frances Smathers Barrick, 86, formerly of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 15, 2015, in the First United Methodist Church, Abernathy, TX, with Rev Karen Kidd Lovett officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop, Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Barrick died Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in Levelland, TX. She was born August 2, 1929 in Llano County, TX, to Forrest and Ella Mae (Heyen) Smathers. Mrs. Barrick moved from Valley Spring to Lubbock in 1957 to attend Texas Tech University. She married Clayton Barrick on June 28, 1959 in Valley Spring, TX and then moved to Abernathy where she ran the household for the family farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Barrick in 1986, step-daughter, Arvella Hefley, 2 brothers, Marion Glen "Bud" Smathers and Lester Lyn Smathers, and a sister, Harriet Mae Lange. Survivors include a son, Clinton Forrest Barrick and wife Jeannie of Lubbock, TX; stepson, Charles Clayton Barrick of Lago Vista, TX; stepdaughter, Barbara Ann Copley of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Rachel Kathryn Barrick of Lubbock; 2 brothers, James Forrest Smathers and wife Patricia of Lufkin, TX and Charles Winfred Smathers and wife Mary Lou of Valley Spring; and a sister, Marilyn Kay Reid and husband Jim of Abilene, TX.
