Henry Gean Nunn, 81, of Lubbock, TX, passed from this life Wednesday, January 28, 2009, in a local hospital. He was the youngest of six children born to James H. and Callie Brown Nunn March 30, 1927 in Hale County, TX. He was raised in the Abernathy area and graduated from Abernathy High School. He served in the United States Navy. On June 4, 1950, Gean married Juanita Jewel Gregg, she preceded him in death on October 20, 2007. He was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service. Gean was active both as a young man and an adult sponsor of the Abernathy Boy Scouts, served as a member of the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department, and was a thirty-second degree Mason. Gean was recognized by KCBD as "One Who Makes a Difference" for his volunteer work with Methodist Hospital. He loved meeting people and making new friends. Gean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abernathy for many years and of Oakwood United Methodist Church at the time of his death. He is survived by his three sons, and their wives, Jimmy and Mary of Lubbock, TX, Dan and Sandra of Celina, TX and Bill and Leslie of Hiram, GA, six grandchildren, Kellie, Chrissa, Jaime, Michael, Brittany, and Riley a brother, James R. of Arizona, and many special relatives and friends. Services were held Saturday, January 31, 2009, in the Oakwood United Methodist Church, 2215 58th Street, Lubbock, TX, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Eddie Marcum and Rev. Ryan Smallwood, officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Memorials may be made to the Oakwood or Abernathy churches, to Alzheimer's Research, or to a church or organization of your choice. Abell Funeral Home
