Graveside services for Martha Looney, 94, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 9:00 am Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in the Abernathy Cemetery. Memorial services followed at 11:00 am in the Center Community Church with Randy Rogers and Jonnie Ford officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Ms. Looney left for her heavenly home Sunday, April 8, 2012, in Lubbock, TX. She was born May 25, 1917 in Double Mountain, Carbon County, TX to William Charlie Crabtree and Nancy Annie (Lay) Crabtree. She was a longtime Lubbock resident, 1 of 9 children, being next to the youngest, all preceding her in death. She married Myers J. Looney in 1934 in the Center Community and he preceded her in death in 1995. She had lived in the Center Community until moving to North Lubbock in the 1960's. She was employed in retail/telephone sales and attended the Baptist Church most of her life. She was currently a member of Shadow Hills Baptist Church. She did volunteer work for the VA and substitute school teaching. She loved flowers, yard work and china painting. She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Glenn Looney in 1990 and a daughter, Mary Ann Howell in 2009. She is survived by 2 children, Jonnie Ford of White River Lake, TX and Wesley Looney of Bandera, TX, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The children are appreciative of the dedication and support of 2 nieces, Ann McMillan of Ingleside, IL, Betty Joyce Ferguson of Idalou, TX and Scott Blackwell and they would like to recognize the excellent care she received at The Plaza.
